Newark School Malta is thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievement of ten students from our Secondary School who participated in and won the ‘An Economic of Life Hackathon’! Held on March 14th, 2025, this prestigious event, hosted by the HSBC Malta Foundation, focused on building crucial life skills for 12-14-year-olds, equipping them for their future.

The hackathon brought together 110 bright young minds from 22 teams across Malta. The day was centred around enhancing practical economics and financial literacy skills. Our students engaged deeply with the challenges, which included detailed financial planning exercises, quizzes on essential economic terms, and interactive simulations like a large-scale financial board game and a ‘Movie Budget’ challenge. These activities provided a dynamic platform for students to apply knowledge in practical, engaging ways.

Amidst intense competition, the Newark School team stood out, demonstrating exceptional dedication, sharp problem-solving abilities, and outstanding teamwork. Their hard work and ingenuity culminated in them being awarded first place, along with a prize of €300!

This success powerfully underscores Newark School’s commitment to holistic education. We strive not only for academic excellence but also for the development of essential life skills, preparing our students for the complexities of the modern world. Participating in high-calibre events like this hackathon, supported by partners such as the HSBC Malta Foundation and potentially The Malta Institute of Accountants, allows students to connect classroom learning (like our Economics programme ) with real-world scenarios.
We extend a massive congratulations to our winning student team – named “Newark 9/10” for the event – for their brilliant performance and unwavering dedication. Their success is a testament to their potential and the supportive learning environment at Newark. Sincere appreciation also goes to the teachers who guided them, especially their Economics teacher, Mr. Bryan, whose mentorship was invaluable throughout this journey.

Well done, Team Newark! We are incredibly proud of this fantastic achievement.
