Keeping Traditions Alive: Introducing ‘Let’s Play It Again’

We are delighted to share the latest updates from our vibrant Erasmus+ journey. At Newark School, we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom walls, and our latest project, ‘Let’s Play It Again’ (2023-1-PL01-KA220-SCH-00158550)1, is a perfect example of this philosophy in action.

Connecting Generations Through Sport

Running until 2025, this two-year project is designed to bridge the gap between generations. The core aim is to transform Physical Education (PE) curricula by reintroducing traditional games based on the cherished memories of our senior citizens.

Our students are stepping into the community to meet with seniors, recording their stories and memories on film. These invaluable interactions allow us to preserve our cultural heritage while strengthening our students’ social, cultural, and communication competences.

What We Are Achieving Together

This project is about more than just playing games; it is about creating lasting educational resources. Over the course of the project, we are:

  • Publishing a unique guide: We are compiling a collection of 24 scenarios for educational and integration games. These will be available in both paper and electronic formats for schools to use.

  • Engaging the community: We are organising six festivals of traditional games to bring the local community together.

  • Enhancing PE: We are conducting 12 specialized sessions (two hours each) dedicated to using these games in physical education.

A Global Effort

Coordinated by our partners in Poland, this project is a truly international collaboration. We are proud to work alongside schools from Crete, Cyprus, North Macedonia, and Lithuania.

The project also offers incredible mobility opportunities, with 48 students in total—eight from each participating country—travelling to partner schools to share their culture and learn from one another.

We are particularly proud of the recent mobility held right here in Malta. The video below showcases the energy and excitement of the week. You will see our students taking the lead, teaching traditional Maltese games to our visiting partners, as well as to our own primary and secondary students.

It is a wonderful testament to how play can unite us, regardless of language or background. We hope you enjoy watching our students keep these beautiful traditions alive!
